And God heard his prayers because of his reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God\u2019s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. Hebrews 5:7-8 (NLT)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My dad had already been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and had <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/health-and-wellness\/coping-with-illness\/the-power-to-end-stroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suffered two massive strokes<\/a> when his doctor diagnosed him with advanced prostate cancer and lung fibrosis.<\/p>\n<p>I lived nearly a thousand miles from my parents for most of my adulthood. I visited them whenever possible, but it never seemed enough, especially when <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/health-and-wellness\/caregiving\/hope-and-inspiration\/inspiration-and-prayer\/6-ways-to-pray-for-the-sick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dad was so sick<\/a>. As the end approached, I prayed and pleaded for the privilege of sitting with him when he entered Jesus\u2019s presence.<\/p>\n<p>God said <em>no<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I was teaching at a string of women\u2019s conferences in Eastern Europe when Dad died. I wasn\u2019t able to attend his funeral. I felt like my prayers and pleadings had gone unheard\u2014until I remembered Jesus\u2019s situation.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus prayed and pleaded to avoid the cross, but God said <em>no<\/em>. He accepted God\u2019s answer even though He knew it meant suffering.<\/p>\n<p>I chose to follow Jesus\u2019s example. I hurt deeply, but He comforted me because He\u2019d walked a similar path.<\/p>\n<p>Have you been praying and crying for God to change your circumstances? How will you respond if He says <em>no<\/em>? I encourage you to follow Jesus\u2019s example. Accept <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/prayer\/how-to-pray\/how-to-pray-until-god-answers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">His answer<\/a> and your circumstances.
