I took to the sport immediately. I loved it! My dad, on the other hand, found himself falling on the ground more than staying upright. I asked him why he was having trouble and he said &#8220;Son, when you&#8217;re an adult, you don&#8217;t pick up sports and languages quite as easily as when you&#8217;re a kid.&#8221; Now that I am Lou Batori of <span id=\"lw_1300405098_1\">Michigan<\/span> is a downhill competition racer in the 70-Plus Ski Club in <span id=\"lw_1300405098_2\">Northern Michigan<\/span> who started racing competitively when he was 80! He also competes in NASTAR-sanctioned ski races \u2014 and, at 100 years old, he is NASTAR\u2019s oldest skier. Ever!<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\" size-full wp-image-37404\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/lougenerationinspiration200.jpg\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 200px;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/lougenerationinspiration200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/lougenerationinspiration200-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Over the past 20 years, he has broken his ankle, wrist, ribs, knees, leg and tibia, but he just keeps on skiing. He loves it too much to stop due to any pesky injury.<\/p>\n<p>Lou says, &#8220;I have often been asked what <span id=\"lw_1300405098_3\">ski school<\/span> I attended. My answer is always, &#8216;What flight school did the <span id=\"lw_1300405098_4\">Wright brothers<\/span> attend?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m always careful, except on <span id=\"lw_1300405098_5\">Sunday mornings<\/span> when I&#8217;m the only one [skiing]. Sanity goes out the window and you just point the tips and let them run.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What an inspiration! He makes me miss my childhood, growing up slaloming down the steep hills outside of Buffalo.
