It\u2019s a wonderful time of year\u2014especially when things are going well. But how do you find the faith to be thankful in hard times?<\/p>\n<p>My heart is heavy for a number of friends who are weathering<a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/faith-prayer-devotions\/stories-of-faith-faith-prayer-devotions\/prayer-advice-for-finding-strength-in-tough-times-from-debbie-macomber\/\"> tough times<\/a>. I know of one in another state who will probably be alone on Thanksgiving and Christmas. At a time when so much revolves around family and friends, that can\u2019t be easy.<\/p>\n<p>Other friends are strained financially. The dollars coming in just aren\u2019t enough to cover expenses. Some have gone months without finding a job, despite sending out dozens of resumes. Health issues have dogged others as well as dealing with death, broken marriages or troubled children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/how-to-make-gratitude-a-lifestyle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Read More: How to Make Gratitude a Lifestyle<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How to find a spirit of gratitude when life is hard? Here\u2019s what God has taught me through my own difficult times:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)\u00a0 Search for bright spots.<\/strong><br \/>\nEven when things are bad, there was always something to thank Him for, no matter how small.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)\u00a0 Help others.<\/strong><br \/>\nCaring about others and reaching out to them has always helped put my own problems in perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) \u00a0Immerse yourself in His Word.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe God who loves us so much that He gave His life for us has tucked hundreds of sweet and precious promises in our Bibles. And somehow, whenever I really need one, He puts His spotlight of grace on it and highlights it for me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4)\u00a0 Sing.<\/strong><br \/>\nSounds crazy, doesn\u2019t it? But during one of the darkest times that my husband and I ever walked through, we put some praise and worship music on and sat at our dining room table and sang. I still tear up when I think about how God used those moments to comfort my husband\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)\u00a0 Pray.<\/strong><br \/>\nThere\u2019s something about spending time with Him that provides peace during life\u2019s storms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)\u00a0 Praise Him no matter what.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s hard to fathom in the middle of a tough time what the best outcome may be. So thank God in advance for what He\u2019s going to do.
