Italian seasonings<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">1 large onion, chopped<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\">3 garlic cloves, minced<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">3 carrots, chopped<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\">2 c. fresh or frozen vegetables (peas, corn, string beans, squash)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">2 stalks celery, chopped<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\">Salt<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">2 c. diced tomatoes or 1 (14.5-oz.) can diced tomatoes with juice<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\">Pepper<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">1 (15-oz.) can dark kidney beans, rinsed and drained<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\"> <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3 class=\"blue-lines\">Preparation<\/h3>\n<p>1. Heat broth in a large pot. Add barley, onions, carrots, celery, tomatoes, beans, bay leaves, seasonings, garlic. Bring to boil; cover and simmer for 90 min\u00adutes.<\/p>\n<p>2. Add additional fresh or frozen veggies; cook on medium heat for 10 minutes. Remove bay leaves before serving.
