Have you ever gone through such a difficult time that it felt like being battered by a tornado for days?<\/p>\n
We were at Epcot recently on a family vacation at Disney World and visited the \u201cInnoventions\u201d museum.<\/p>\n
The theme, \u201cIs your family storm-ready?\u201d provided a vivid experience of what happens during a major storm. A wind-blown tree limb broke the glass in the windows, and we were sprayed with water, just as we would have been had the storm actually happened.<\/p>\n
They gave awesome tips, equipping us with the things we needed to know before a major storm arrives\u2014but it was what I learned before the program, while standing in line, that touched my heart.<\/p>\n
To keep us entertained, there were slides with interesting facts about how animals behave right before stormy weather. One slide read, \u201cEagles fly to the highest point they can when a storm is approaching.\u201d Friends, follow the example of the eagles. God is the highest point we can find and should be the first place we go when the storms of life hit us: \u201cI bore you on eagles\u2019 wings, and brought you to Myself.\u201d <\/em>(Exodus 19:4)<\/p>\n Another slide read, \u201cElephants feel the vibrations of the earth as a storm approaches and head for the hills.\u201d Immediately, some verses I learned as a child came to mind: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.<\/em> (Psalm 121:1-2)<\/p>\n Still another slide read, \u201cButterflies cling to rocks, trees and the underside of leaves to protect their fragile wings from heavy rain.\u201d<\/p>\n Sweet friends, when those tough times of life arrive, cling to God: From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.<\/em> (Psalm 61:2)<\/p>\n Is your family ready for the storms of life? Here are four things you can do to make sure:<\/p>\n 1) Read God\u2019s Word so you can find those sweet and precious promises that will get you through those storms.<\/p>\n 2) Memorize those Scriptures. Teach them to your children so when hard days arrive, those verses come to their minds and bring comfort.<\/p>\n 3) Pray before the storms of life arrive. Don\u2019t wait until tough times come before building that relationship with God.<\/p>\n 4) Find someone who will walk through the storms of life with you\u2014a prayer partner\u2014someone who will be able to encourage you with reminders that God cares.<\/p>\n It\u2019s much easier to go through stormy weather when you\u2019re prepared.
