Oil and water, that\u2019s us,<\/em> I thought when I met Teri 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

She was outspoken. I\u2019m reserved. Teri didn\u2019t wear makeup; I wouldn\u2019t leave home without it.<\/p>\n

Back in the day, Teri loved hitting the road on her Harley. I preferred curling up with a good book. We\u2019re just so different<\/em>, I thought.<\/p>\n

Until I went through a devastating divorce. I passed the days in a fog, sobbing for hours when I got home from work. Friends and family called, worried.<\/p>\n

A phone call wasn\u2019t enough for Teri. One day she strode into my office. \u201cYou need to have some fun,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m taking you to a Garth Brooks concert this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t,\u201d I protested. \u201cI\u2019m not ready to go out.\u201d But Teri wouldn\u2019t take no for an answer.<\/p>\n

We had a blast at the concert! For the first time in ages, I laughed and felt like life could go on. Soon Teri and I were going to more concerts, San Diego Chargers football games, church volunteer projects.<\/p>\n

One day I gave Teri a card. \u201cThank you for never giving up on me,\u201d I wrote.<\/p>\n

Slowly I climbed out of that terrible darkness, in large part because of Teri, who boldly showed me that life is full of joys\u2014especially our friendship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
