It\u2019s a big job. Sometimes it takes all five of us\u2014Frank, me and our three sons\u2014to keep it going. We host all kinds of groups. Who wouldn\u2019t want to spend time in a lake house, surrounded by 78 acres of rolling hills? It\u2019s a relaxing getaway for our guests.<\/p>\n<p>For Frank and me, it\u2019s hard work. Especially during the summer, when we run our own children\u2019s camp. In the evenings, we\u2019re lucky if we manage an \u201cI love you\u201d before falling asleep.<\/p>\n<p>Yet somehow, after 20 years, we\u2019re as close as ever. How do we do it? The answer lies in six simple words: \u201cMeet me at the golf cart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The golf cart came to us our very first summer at the camp. There was so much to do and so much to learn. There was barely time for a quick hug before we had to go off in different directions\u2014sometimes miles away from each other. Frank and I were working together every day, yet I\u2019d never felt so distant from him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill, the grounds are so beautiful,\u201d I told a good friend one day, when I\u2019d slipped away for a quick phone call. \u201cIt\u2019s worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to tell me,\u201d my friend said. \u201cI spent summers at that very camp. There\u2019s just something so peaceful about it. It\u2019s my absolute favorite place on earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a pause, my friend asked, \u201cTell me, how is your husband getting around such a big place?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, he has the camp\u2019s old pickup,\u201d I said with a laugh. \u201cBut that truck is not even roadworthy. He\u2019s mostly getting around on foot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks later, my friend sent us the golf cart. Frank and I no longer had to walk miles every day. When we needed to see to something on the grounds, we just hopped in the cart and zipped off. We were still busy from morning till night, but at least we weren\u2019t quite so exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>One day, I went to Frank with a question about a food delivery. I wasn\u2019t the only one who needed his attention. He was surrounded by campers and counselors. Even one of our sons had something to ask him. Frank and I would never get enough time to have an actual conversation. Then I got an idea. \u201cHey, babe,\u201d I said, \u201clet\u2019s grab the golf cart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Frank smiled, immediately understanding my meaning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry, guys,\u201d he said, \u201cbut we need to run an errand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We climbed into the cart. \u201cWhere do we go?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomewhere nobody will be waiting for us,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>Frank drove us up to the top of a hill. By the time we got there, we\u2019d already worked out the delivery question, so he and I just sat there quietly for a long moment and looked out at the grounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere really is something so peaceful about this place,\u201d I said. \u201cWhen you get a chance to enjoy it, that is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom now on,\u201d Frank said, \u201cthis spot will be our place. Just for you and me. Whenever one of us needs it, just say the word and we\u2019ll get in the golf cart and go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes later, we drove down the hill and back to our busy lives. But <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/friends-and-family\/marriage\/3-easy-ways-to-fall-back-in-love-with-your-spouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">those few minutes changed everything<\/a>. It wasn\u2019t just the beautiful view.
