I might be inclined to agree with that, though the song is not actually one of my favorite Stones tunes. But it got me thinking about the concept and state of spiritual satisfaction. It\u2019s more than just settling for half a loaf.<\/p>\n<p>In the song, Mick Jagger isn\u2019t looking for the meaning of life or a spiritual truth, nor is he seeking the perfect love or a moment of clarity; he\u2019s just looking for satisfaction, which he can\u2019t seem to find in his travels around the world when he\u2019s \u201cdoin\u2019 this and\u2026I\u2019m signin\u2019 that.\u201d But what does it mean to be satisfied? I think it\u2019s a misunderstood, under-appreciated condition and a <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/health-and-wellness\/a-spiritual-approach-to-making-exercise-a-habit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">habit to be cultivated.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>1)\u00a0 Check Your Blessings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cGod never gives you more than you can handle,\u201d goes the claim. I would include <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/inspiring-stories\/god-opened-her-eyes-to-the-blessings-of-living-in-a-texas-oil-town\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blessings<\/a> in that category. I have yet to win the lottery, and I probably never will. Still, when I look at my life, I am given what I need at every turn. My desires are met, not always in abundance but always to satisfaction. God knows our needs better than we do. When I accept His will for me, I find satisfaction.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2)\u00a0 Keep It Simple<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This is a phrase I learned in 12-step (often shortened to KISS\u2014Keep It Simple, Stupid) and a concept I have admittedly yet to completely master. Simplicity begets satisfaction. The simpler my desires, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/prayer\/how-to-pray\/the-most-powerful-prayer-in-just-one-word\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">simpler my prayers<\/a>, the more likely I am to be satisfied. Too often I just can\u2019t stop myself from asking for too much. How happy do I think I need to be? In the end, God doesn\u2019t disappoint me, I do. Keeping it simple keeps it real and enhances gratitude.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>3)\u00a0 Look for Hidden Gifts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We all have them\u2014the job we never thought we\u2019d love, <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/friends-and-family\/love-thy-neighbor-and-the-habit-of-friendship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the friend<\/a> we never thought we\u2019d make, the place we never thought we\u2019d call home. These are some of my greatest satisfactions. Count yours.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4)\u00a0 Compare Not<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Some forms of social media seem designed to wreck our self-esteem. Who hasn\u2019t given in to <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/friends-and-family\/parenting\/mitch-albom-5-spiritual-lessons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">comparing themselves<\/a> to others who are presumably living better lives? An old friend wins an award, and I ask why it wasn\u2019t I who won the prize when I should be celebrating her achievement. I was put on the path I\u2019m on for a reason. Comparisons are senseless when I question God\u2019s direction for me by defining it against others. Does a loving God actually make that comparison? I definitely can\u2019t get no satisfaction that way.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5)\u00a0 Love, the Ultimate Satisfaction<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Nothing satisfies our souls more than love\u2014love of God, love of family, love of country, <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/daily_devotional\/healing-for-yourself-and-loved-ones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">love of self.<\/a> It is both the simplest and greatest of all satisfactions. I look at the love that runs through my life like a divine current, and I am humbled by its power and immensely satisfied by its fullness.<\/p>\n<p>Spiritual satisfaction is a powerful habit of accepting what God has for us.
