How does God speak to us? His voice is seldom audible, a booming direction or affirmation blasted down from above. But if we actively listen, he does <\/i>speak\u2014in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n
1. God speaks through nature.<\/b>
\nThe glory of God is revealed in the universe with its billions of galaxies and the intelligent order revealed in every creature, every flower, every atom and sub-atom. Psalm 19, verses 1-4, tell us:<\/p>\n
The heavens declare the glory of God; <\/i>
\n the skies proclaim the work of his hands. <\/i><\/p>\n
Day after day they pour forth speech; <\/i>
\n night after night they display knowledge. <\/i><\/p>\n
There is no speech or language <\/i>
\n where their voice is not heard. <\/i><\/p>\n
Their voice goes out into all the earth, <\/i>
\n their words to the ends of the world. <\/i><\/p>\n
2. God speaks in our hearts.<\/b>
\nEveryone in the world knows that it is wrong to steal, to lie, to kill, to harm others. God\u2019s law is written on our hearts, as the Apostle Paul says in Romans 2:14-15: \u201cIndeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.\u201d As you make moral decisions and life choices, listen closely to that still small voice within you.<\/p>\n
3. God speaks through Scripture.
\n\u201c<\/b>All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness\u2026 (2 Timothy 3:16). As we read the Bible faithfully, God\u2019s will for us becomes more and more clear.<\/p>\n
4. God speaks to us through Jesus Christ, the Living Word.<\/b>
\n\u201cIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us\u2026\u201d (John 1:1, 14). Jesus is the Living Word. He doesn\u2019t just give good advice; he has experienced every trial we have. He knows how hard life can be\u2014but he also knows the way out. Therefore, through him we can find \u201cgrace to help in time of need\u201d (Hebrews 4:16).<\/p>\n
