It\u2019s a classic warm-weather evening. The air is thick with Midwest balm. The sky\u2019s a deep, dark canvas of mid-summer night. And my youngest boys are in the yard chasing fireflies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re so cool,\u201d Zay says. He\u2019s moving across the yard, and he\u2019s still small enough to skip.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver there,\u201d Sam says. His toes are past the sweet line of little-boyhood, but even he is drawn into this simple fun. He points to a place near the blue green hostas where several flying-wonders congregate\u2013a collection of alluring light.<\/p>\n

Gabe shoots around the yard, too, following yellow-green blips that hover low and then drift high.<\/p>\n

And Lonny and I sit in the swing and watch. There\u2019s something compelling about this scene.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s precious beauty in this display of light.<\/p>\n

Makes me think of Jesus, my Savior, and source of true illumination, life, and light.<\/p>\n

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. <\/em>(Matthew 1:4 NIV)<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.\u201d <\/em>(John 8:12 NIV)<\/p>\n

For God, who said, \u201cLet light shine out of the darkness,\u201d made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. <\/em>(2 Corinthians 4:6 NIV)<\/p>\n

It hurts my heart to think of where I\u2019d be without it. Lost in the darkness of sin. Groping for peace but only pulling fistfuls of hopelessness. Void of life-changing, life-transforming light.<\/p>\n

I am so thankful for Jesus\u2013for the hope<\/a> and light and life He\u2019s given me.<\/p>\n

The boys charge around for another half-hour. Lonny and I sit back and let them run.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s joy.<\/p>\n

And peace.<\/p>\n

And gladness.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s deeply fulfilling\u2013this seeking light.<\/p>\n
