I think of it often, especially as summer arrives. It reflects the desire of my heart and suggests at least three ways I can \u201csummer with God\u201d in the weeks ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Change Your Pace<\/strong><br \/>\nThe classic Gershwin lyric labels \u201csummertime\u201d as a season when \u201cthe livin\u2019 is easy.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/inspiring-stories\/creating-summer-memories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The pace is different.<\/a> Slower, yes, and perhaps quieter. So, if you summer with God, look for those opportunities to change your pace and invite God into it. <\/p>\n<p>Take a walk, for instance, instead of reflexively driving somewhere nearby. <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/health-and-wellness\/4-easy-ways-to-embrace-the-healing-power-of-nature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Take a break. <\/a>Whether it\u2019s a beach vacation or a weekend away\u2014or just a quick picnic in the park\u2014find a time and place for some \u201cdown time\u201d in which to send up a few prayers. Or, as the Gershwin song suggests, grab a pole and go where the fish are \u201cjumpin\u2019\u201d (and God might be \u201cspeakin\u2019\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Taste and See God\u2019s Goodness<\/strong><br \/>\nThe psalmist David sang, \u201cTaste and see that the Lord is good\u201d (Psalm 34:8, NIV). The sense of taste is one we often forget or neglect in making meaningful connections with God. But <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/entertainment\/recipes\/our-9-favorite-summer-salads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the tastes of the season<\/a> can help us to summer with God. <\/p>\n<p>Pour a tall glass of iced tea and summer with God as you sip. Slice a melon and pray for God to produce similarly rich fruit in your life. Invite friends to a cookout and pause a few times to mark the goodness of God in <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/health-and-wellness\/better-living\/positive-thinking\/positive-eating-5-summer-recipes-that-will-help-keep-you-cool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the gifts of food<\/a> and friendship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Soak in the Sunshine<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen was the last time <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/positive-living\/health-and-wellness\/living-longer-living-better\/5-tips-for-the-best-summer-naps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you closed your eyes <\/a>and let the sun warm your face? Or counted the clouds in the sky on a sunny day? Sure, you may need to apply a little sunscreen\u2014or you may live in a region that seldom sees the sun\u2014but one of summer\u2019s delights is the sunshine and shade that makes the outdoors so, well, \u201coutdoorsy.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Depending on where you live and your daily schedule, you may need to be more intentional to soak up the sun, but try finding a way to enact the words of Scripture: \u201cFrom the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised\u201d (Psalm 113:3, NIV).<\/p>\n<p>I want this to be a different summer than many that have gone before. I want it to be a summer that not only includes God in my plans and experiences, but also one that includes me in His.
