At that point, everyone knew what to do: The Doxology. It was a <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/prayer\/quotes-verses\/5-ways-to-sing-your-praise-to-god\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">musical rendition<\/a> of Psalm 100:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Praise God from whom all blessings flow,<br \/>\nPraise Him all creatures here below;<br \/>\nPraise Him above all ye heavenly hosts.<br \/>\nPraise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.<\/p>\n<p>It might also have been sung to conclude a service now and then. But \u201cThe Doxology\u201d was part of our common language, at least in my faith community.<\/p>\n<p>Not so much anymore. I can\u2019t remember the last doxology I sang. But I plan to change that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoxology\u201d is simply a word imported from ancient Greek, from <em>doxa<\/em> (\u201cglory\u201d) and <em>logia<\/em> (\u201cword\u201d or \u201csaying\u201d). In modern use, it means a spoken or sung declaration of praise to God. And it\u2019s a great way to pray, whether you\u2019re in church or at the beach.<\/p>\n<p>The Bible is filled with doxologies, and they can all be adopted into or adapted to your prayer life. For example, Psalm 41 concludes, \u201cPraise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting\u201d (Psalm 41:13, NIV). And Psalm 72 includes the doxology:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel,<br \/>\n    who alone does marvelous deeds.<br \/>\nPraise be to his glorious name forever;<br \/>\n    may the whole earth be filled with his glory.<br \/>\nAmen and Amen (Psalm 72:18-19, NIV).<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/gpbookstore.org\/articles\/angels-and-miracles\/angels\/illuminating-angels-new-testament-angels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Testament writings<\/a> contain numerous doxologies:<\/p>\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen (1 Timothy 1:17, NIV).<\/p>\n<p>Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!<br \/>\n   How unsearchable his judgments,<br \/>\n   and his paths beyond tracing out!<br \/>\n\u201cWho has known the mind of the Lord?<br \/>\n  Or who has been his counselor?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWho has ever given to God,<br \/>\n  that God should repay them?\u201d<br \/>\nFor from him and through him and for him are all things.<br \/>\n  To him be the glory forever! Amen\u201d (Romans 11:33-36, NIV).<\/p>\n<p>To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen (Romans 16:27, NIV).<\/p>\n<p>To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen (Jude 25, NIV).<\/p>\n<p>So try it.
