He showed Himself to Mary Magdalene near the garden tomb (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+20%3A11-17&amp;version=ESV\" style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 20:11-17<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\">). He appeared to many of His closest disciples behind locked doors (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+20%3A19-23&amp;version=ESV\" style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 20:19-23<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\">). He appeared to two of His followers on the road to Emmaus (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke+24%3A13-35&amp;version=ESV\" style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luke 24:13-35<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\">). He even appeared to more than 500 people at once (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Corinthians+15:6&amp;version=ESV\" style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1 Corinthians 15:6<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.428571429\">But perhaps the most dramatic of Jesus\u2019 post-Resurrection appearances was His encounter with Thomas, who had not been present when Jesus appeared to the rest of His closest circle of followers. John recorded the event in his Gospel:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:35.45pt\"><em>Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, \u201cWe have seen the Lord.\u201d But he said to them, \u201cUnless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:35.45pt\"><em>Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, \u201cPeace be with you.\u201d Then he said to Thomas, \u201cPut your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.\u201d Thomas answered him, \u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d Jesus said to him, \u201cHave you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed\u201d<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+20%3A24-29&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 20:24-29, ESV<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Ever since, of course, Thomas has been branded as \u201cdoubting Thomas.\u201d But I don\u2019t think that\u2019s fair. He could just as easily be called \u201cconfessing Thomas\u201d or \u201cpraying Thomas,\u201d because his exclamation\u2013\u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d\u2013is among the first post-Resurrection prayers the Gospels record (the first was probably Mary Magdalene\u2019s one-word, \u201cRabboni!\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+20%3A16&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 20:16<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Thomas\u2019s prayer can be a great way to pray during the Easter season. Try it. Begin your post-Resurrection-Sunday prayers with Thomas\u2019s post-Resurrection prayer. When you rise in the morning, greet your Savior: \u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As you bow your head in gratitude for a meal, begin: \u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d When you intercede for a friend or someone in need, say, \u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d When you lay your head on your pillow at night, whisper: \u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Try it, and please let me know in the comments that you did. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jesus appeared many times to people after rising from the dead.
