Stubbornness runs in my family\u2013even my in-laws are hardheaded. But I thought I was the most stubborn of all of us until Stacy, my son Brett\u2019s wife, was pregnant with their fourth child.<\/p>\n
Everything went smoothly for the first few months. Then Stacy learned the baby was in the breech position\u2013upside down.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat means I\u2019ll need a C-section,\u201d Stacy told me. \u201cWith three other children to take care of, plus the new baby, I can\u2019t afford the recovery time of surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n
The whole family got down to praying for the baby to flip over. But wouldn\u2019t you know, my new grandson was just as stubborn as we were. He remained upside down no matter what Stacy did.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve tried everything,\u201d she told me as her due date drew near. \u201cI had acupuncture\u2013that made the baby wiggle, but not turn. I did handstands in the pool at the health club\u2013I wish you\u2019d been there to see that! Two doctors spent an hour pushing on my belly, trying to turn him. But he\u2019s just not moving.\u201d<\/p>\n
