When my seven-year-old son, Logan, first complained of an earache, I thought he had a routine infection. Then his hands and his feet began to swell. Over the next few weeks he became desperately ill. His blood pressure and temperature shot up, reaching dangerous levels.<\/p>\n
A team of doctors determined that his illness was the result of an unchecked strep infection and his immune system was attacking his kidneys. The therapies and drugs they were using weren\u2019t working. They were alarmed.<\/p>\n
My husband, Timothy, and I were panic-stricken when we heard the diagnosis: \u201cLogan\u2019s in acute kidney failure and in danger of cardiac arrest.\u201d The doctors started him on dialysis.<\/p>\n
Timothy and I clung to each other and our faith. Our family and friends placed Logan\u2019s name on several prayer chains.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of those people are praying for me<\/em>?\u201d Logan asked.<\/p>\n \u201cYes,\u201d I said. \u201cAnd God hears every prayer.\u201d<\/p>\n Logan grew quiet and looked into my eyes. \u201cWell, if thousands of people are praying for me,\u201d he said, \u201cmaybe I should pray for myself too.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat would be a good idea,\u201d I said. I kissed him goodnight and turned out the light.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t worry if you hear me talking in here, Mom,\u201d he called to me as I left his room. \u201cI\u2019m just praying.\u201d<\/p>\n The next day we returned to the hospital for Logan\u2019s dialysis. But when they drew his blood, tests revealed that he no longer needed the treatment.
